STAY on Friday
St A(ndrews) Y(outh) on Friday is our regular Friday night youth club.
It’s a safe place for those in secondary school to socialise, have fun, create memories and mix with others from a range of schools in our local area.
During term time
The Ark, St Andrews Church, Thames Street, Sonning, RG4 6UR.
The evening activities consist of; a pool table, a foosball table, table tennis, football, kubb, volleyball, badminton, swingball & four square. We also provide a tuck shop, nail bar, an Xbox, a PS5 and loads of board games.
But the best thing about the youth club has to be the monthly ‘doughnut wall’ where we stack 60 doughnuts onto our very own STAY for doughnuts wall!
There’s also opportunities to bake yummy treats in the kitchen and share them with the rest of youth club.
The Final Thought
Each week we end with a final thought.
The youth choose the topics and they range from; mental health to social media and managing siblings through to friendships!
Other STAY Activities
STAY on Sunday
The group exists to help young people deepen their faith in Jesus, build lasting friendships with each other and to connect in with the wider church family. We watch videos, eat donuts, read the Bible, pray and play games together. In November 2022 we had the great honour of baptising 5 young people in the River Thames, followed shortly afterwards with 15 young people getting confirmed.
STAY on monday
Monday of each month where the young people gather in each others homes. The group follows a pattern of games, cake and questions and faith. It aims to compliment what’s learned in STAY on Sunday in a relaxed atmosphere. Cakes, snacks and drinks are provided by the host families, as well as games and activities for the youth to enjoy.
STAY in the Holidays
During the school holidays we offer the young people a variety of fun and exciting activities. These have included; waterparks, paddleboarding sessions, laser quest trips, cinema trips, bowling, rock climbing, go-karting, Thorpe Park, swimming trips and organised sports sessions in the local park.
STAY in schools
We work in all four local schools (Sonning & Charvil Primary Schools, Piggott & Blue Coat Secondary Schools) with varied and exciting opportunities to serve and share our faith. We do this through collective worship assemblies, staff, parent & governor prayer meetings, weekly mentoring sessions, a weekly CU in Piggott and lunch clubs in both Piggott and Blue Coat School.
STAY for Special Events
We also celebrate together with events like:
Christmas with a dance party
Join in with Reading wide Christian youth events and Satellites summer camp
Easter weekend with an Easter egg hunt, bbq and bouncy castle
A Light Party on October 31st with laser tag, s’mores and a firepit
